Botox (Botulinum toxin) is used to rejuvenate the upper part of the face to reduce wrinkles and frown lines. It is very safe and effective in reducing the signs of aging by decreasing or erasing the frown lines between eyes, the crow's feet around the eyes, and the forehead wrinkles. This drug is FDA-approved for the treatment of wrinkles, and has been used since 1973. Botox treatments can also be used to reduce the lines around the mouth and to tighten the skin under the neck.

Side effects are minimal. If patients are on anti-inflammatory medications like Tylenol, ibuprofen, or aspirin, there may me some bruising at the site of the injection. Rarely there may be a droopy eyelid, which resolves on its own in a few weeks, sometimes this is corrected by special eye drops.
