Rosacea

Rosacea is a form of adult acne. Most commonly seen in the late 30's to 40's, it also affects individuals in their late teens or twenties. The most common skin types are persons with fair complexions.

Most individuals with mild involvement do not recognize it as a problem. The most common presentation is merely flushing or blushing when one gets embarrassed or stressed. The usual response to the question "do you flush?" is "I've always had red cheeks, especially when I get embarrassed". Most individuals erroneously feel that there is nothing you can do about it.

Rosacea is most noticeable in its more severe form. This involves significant redness on cheeks, nose and chin; the development of blood vessels or spider veins on the face that contribute to baseline redness and purple discoloration; and pimples. Men more than women develop thickened skin over their nose after years or repeated flushing.

Early treatment can prevent rosacea from getting worse. After repeated episodes of flushing permanent blood vessels develop on the face. There are topical and oral treatments available to reduce the number of episodes of flushing. Many foods and environmental conditions trigger rosacea and by simply modifying one's diet, an individual may help alleviate symptoms.

Laser vein treatment provides a method of removing facial veins or spider veins. This restores a person's complexion to a natural flesh color as opposed to a ruddy color. Spa City Spa offers laser vein treatment which is effective and affordable.

Most people with rosacea have very sensitive skin. There are products specially formulated for skin care to help cleanse, moisturize and reduce redness while reducing wrinkles! These are manufactured specifically with rosacea patients in mind. There is also an array of anti-aging creams and sunscreens available which will not irritate the skin.
